Australia Review
Baz Lurhman spent years developing his work of art epic Australia. He spent months filming it and wanted to create a story to end all stories when it comes to his beloved Australia. So how does the film actually live up? Is it really worth your time?
Upon speaking with many the outcome seems to be less pleasing, but I on the other hand actually quite enjoyed it (much against my own pre-thought judgements). When I first saw the trailer I thought that this was going to be horribly long and drawn-out. But, when a screening presented itself to me, I went and saw. And to my surprise I actually really enjoyed it! Yes, the story has corny lines, and yes it is fairly predictable, but what it has going for it is some of the most beautiful shots and an amazing young actor who plays the role of Nala. And, to be honoest, it is just a really enjoyable adventure story. Nothing profound, but it doesn’t pretend to be. It is just good old fashioned to a sense filmmaking.
The story is essentially that of a young British woman (Nicole Kidman) who comes to Australia to hopefully speed along her husband’s wishes of selling. She meets a drover along the way (Hugh Jackman) who ultimately ends up helping her. There’s a villian of course, wrongful doing of children, and war all thrown in too. Oh, and yes, of course the romance is apparent throughout. The story is virtually impossible to fully describe, it’s better to just sit down, watch it, and come up with your own conclusions.
The DVD was released yesterday (Tuesday 3 March) and has two deleted scenes.
I give it a 8/10 for the more then gorgeous filming.
Happy viewing everyone! =)
